Shear line, 'amihan' to bring rains over parts of PH

MANILA – The shear line will continue to affect the Visayas, while the northeast monsoon or "amihan" will prevail over Luzon, bringing varied weather conditions across the country in the next 24 hours, the weather bureau said Wednesday.

In its 5 a.m. forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected over the Visayas, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat Islands due to the shear line.

Moderate to heavy rains in these areas may trigger flash floods or landslides, PAGASA warned.

Cloudy skies with light rains are forecast over Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera region, the rest of the Bicol Region, Aurora, and Quezon as the northeast monsoon continues to affect Luzon.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, also due to the northeast monsoon.

Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms. PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds from the northeast will prevail over the eastern sections of Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, with moderate to rough coastal waters.

Northern Luzon will experience moderate winds blowing from the east to northeast, with moderate seas.

The rest of the country will have light to moderate winds from the northeast, with slight to moderate coastal waters. (PNA)
