Shear line, 'amihan', easterlies bring rains on Thursday

MANILA – The shear line will continue to affect the eastern sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas while the northeast monsoon or "amihan" will prevail over the rest of Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Thursday.

In its 4 a.m. forecast, PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rains or isolated thunderstorms are expected over the Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Negros Occidental, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, and Leyte due to the shear line.

Moderate to at times heavy rains may trigger flash floods or landslides in these areas.

The easterlies will cause cloudy skies with scattered rains, and thunderstorms will also prevail over Caraga, Davao Region, and Southern Leyte.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Aurora will experience cloudy skies with light rain due to the northeast monsoon, with no significant impact expected.

Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Central Luzon, and the rest of Calabarzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, also due to "amihan".

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies. Severe thunderstorms may cause flash floods or landslides.

As for wind and coastal water conditions, moderate to strong northeast winds will prevail over Northern Luzon and the eastern sections of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Visayas, with moderate to rough seas ranging from 1.2 to 2.8 meters.

The rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds from the east to northeast, with slight to moderate coastal waters measuring 0.6 to 2.1 meters. (PNA)
