DUMAGUETE CITY – Several local government units (LGUs) in Negros Oriental suspended classes on Monday amid heavy rainfall from the trough of the low pressure area (LPA) threatening the country.
The LGUs include Sibulan, Manjuyod, Bindoy, and Zamboanguita, among others.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued the latest heavy rainfall warning at 2 p.m., indicating that the province is experiencing light to moderate rain, occasionally heavy.
Many areas in the province experienced rain since Sunday evening through Monday morning, prompting the class suspensions.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Capitol announced on social media that the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has not recommended suspending classes in the province, despite heavy rains and discussions with PAGASA.
However, it noted that local chief executives have the discretion to suspend classes in their jurisdictions during adverse weather conditions. (PNA)
