PSA pilots electronic civil registration in Negros Oriental

DUMAGUETE CITY – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in Negros Oriental has piloted its Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (eCRVS) System Birth and Death Registration in Sibulan, Negros Oriental.

Ariel Fortuito, the Chief Statistical Specialist and Provincial Statistics Officer, told the Philippine News Agency in an interview on Friday that three pilot areas in Sibulan are already implementing the eCRVS.

Fortuito said the pilot areas are the Local Civil Registry Office, Sibulan Primary Care Facility and Negros Polymedic Hospital, whose personnel underwent training late last year.

“The eCRVS system, a platform that streamlines the end-to-end registration of vital events such as births and deaths, improves service delivery and enables real-time capture and reporting,” Fortuito said.

A memorandum of agreement was signed earlier by Mayor Jose Pepe Abiera of Sibulan and PSA-Negros Oriental officials.

The PSA-Negros Oriental will deploy information and communication technology (ICT) equipment, such as computers, printers and scanners, on Friday for the eCRVS system for the Sibulan pilot areas.

A MOA has also been signed for the Negros Polymedic Hospital, with the ICT equipment being delivered last Feb. 26.

The eCRVS system will later be launched in more areas to be used by local civil registry offices and other CRVS stakeholders, such as health facilities and institutions.

Fortuito is optimistic that additional local government units and stakeholders will adopt the eCRVS to accelerate and simplify the registration of essential events like births and deaths. (PNA)
