MANILA – Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has reaffirmed his commitment to modernizing the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) to better prepare future police officers for evolving law enforcement and peace and order challenges.
Speaking at the 46th PNPA Grand Alumni Homecoming in Silang, Cavite, on Saturday, Nartatez said that as one of the country’s main sources of police officers, the PNPA must ensure cadets are ready to adapt to real-world conditions once they graduate.
“Our goal is to ensure that every cadet will be equipped with world-class skills and knowledge that are anchored on integrity and excellence in law enforcement in order to better serve the Filipino people,” Nartatez said, as quoted by a PNP statement on Monday.
Nartatez also said the PNP leadership is closely coordinating with the PNPA to strengthen academic and training systems.
He also emphasized the academy’s zero-tolerance policy against hazing.
“We are strengthening the tactical officers' oversight and ensuring that any violator — cadet or officer — will be dismissed immediately,” the PNP chief said.
He stressed that training must produce competent officers without compromising their safety.
“Tough training should build character, not break bones. We are shifting toward science-based physical conditioning and psychological resilience. We want officers who are 'tough' because they are competent, not because they survived abuse,” he added. (Lloyd Caliwan/PNA)
