DAVAO CITY – The Davao City Overland Transport Terminal (DCOTT) is preparing for a surge of travelers this Holy Week, assuring the public of more than 1,000 bus trips daily with no fare increase, an official announced Monday.
DCOTT manager Aisa Usop said the influx of passengers began last Friday, with long queues forming at the terminal drive. On regular days, the terminal averages 700 to 800 trips, but additional schedules have been arranged to reach over 1,000 trips daily. Passenger volume is expected to range between 50,000 and 75,000 per day.
"For the awareness of the public, please avoid traveling during rush hours. I believe there will be a surge of passengers this time due to oil prices, as many opt to commute rather than bring their vehicles," Usop said.
She said that with fares unchanged, more commuters are choosing buses and vans to save on travel costs.
To meet demand, DCOTT has coordinated with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to issue special permits for additional routes.
"What is important is we are ready. We have a desk here for the LTFRB – if there is a surge of passengers, we will issue a special permit upon request," Usop added.
Meanwhile, national agencies have inspected the terminal to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
DCOTT is also working closely with the security cluster for the deployment of personnel during the Lenten season. The terminal is equipped with CCTVs and X-ray baggage scanners to strengthen public safety during peak hours. (PNA)
