MANILA – The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Thursday said it has been exploring various ways to conserve energy, in line with the administration's call for energy-saving measures in government offices.
Aside from implementing a four-day workweek among employees, the MIAA, in a news release, said it has tasked critical offices "to operate on shifting schedules”.
These offices include the Airport Police Department, Medical Services, Engineering Services, and Operations and Compliance Group.
The MIAA said it has also reduced fuel allocation for service vehicles by 10 percent.
The management is exploring the integration of renewable energy sources into its infrastructure development plans. Solar panels were recently installed on one of its buildings near the Our Lady of the Airways Parish.
"The long-term benefits of using solar panels in alleviating climate change far outweigh the significant investment that will be required initially," MIAA General Manager Eric Ines was quoted as saying.
Other measures include encouraging personnel to maximize the use of natural lighting by arranging workspaces near glass windows, use of energy-efficient lighting, using stairs, and holding virtual meetings.
The MIAA added that official travel is strictly limited to engagements necessary to fulfill responsibilities.
In terms of procurement, priority is given to energy-saving appliances, the MIAA said. (PNA)
