DAVAO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD-11) has mobilized assistance for families displaced by a fire that broke out Wednesday night at the boundary of Barangays 37-D and 76-A, officials said Thursday.
The agency conducted an immediate on-site assessment to determine the situation and urgent needs of affected families.
"Profiling and validation are currently underway to ensure that appropriate assistance and interventions are provided in a timely and coordinated manner," DSWD-11 said.
Initial reports from the City Social Welfare and Development Office showed 26 families and 14 individual boarders were affected. Nine modular tents were set up as temporary shelter.
In coordination with the CSWDO, hot meals were distributed through a mobile kitchen, and a child-friendly space was established at the evacuation center to support children's psychosocial well-being.
"DSWD-11 continues to closely monitor the situation and remains ready to extend further assistance as needed," the agency added.
Meanwhile, 119 families displaced by a separate Feb. 10 fire in Barangay 76-A Bucana received additional relief from the office of Rep. Paolo Duterte and Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte II.
Food packs, potable water, hygiene kits and meal packs were distributed. Students received school supplies and snacks and were treated to a magic show to help lift their spirits.
Additional assistance — including kitchenware, cooking utensils and other essential household items — is scheduled for distribution in the coming days to help families restore daily routines in temporary shelters. (PNA)
