De Lima, Catapang file charges vs. 18 ex-Marines, lawyer

MANILA – ML Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima and Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. on Monday filed criminal complaints against 18 former Marines and their lawyer Levito Bailgod.

De Lima, deputy minority leader of the House of Representatives, filed a cyber libel complaint with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and perjury charges before the Department of Justice (DOJ) over the 18 Marines’ claim that they delivered suitcases of cash to her.

Catapang also filed perjury and cyber libel complaints against the alleged former Philippines Marines and Baligod.

Both Catapang and De Lima have vehemently denied the allegations.

“Kung may pera ang BuCor ay ginamit sa construction. Wala kaming DPWH projects at ghost projects at hindi kami na involve sa whatever anomalies na sinasabi nila (If BuCor had money, it would have been used for construction. We don't have DPWH projects and ghost projects and we are not involved in whatever anomalies they are talking about)” Catapang said.

Meanwhile, the DOJ on Monday gave the camp of Sen. Joseph “Jinggoy” Estrada more time to answer the charges against him in connection with the ghost control projects cases.

“Sen. Estrada requested for another extension to file his counter-affidavit. He was given a non-extendible period of three days or until March 12 by the panel. At which point, the case will then be submitted for resolution,” DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez said in a media interview. (PNA)
