DAVAO CITY – Various local government units (LGUs) in Davao Region suspended work and classes on Friday as a safety precaution amid adverse weather caused by moderate to heavy rains from a shear line.
In Davao del Norte, the municipalities that declared suspension of classes are Carmen, Asuncion, Kapalong, San Isidro, Santo Tomas, New Corella, and Talaingod.
The three cities in the province – Panabo, Tagum, and Island Garden City of Samal - also declared suspension of classes.
In Davao City, classes at all levels in public and private schools are also postponed due to bad weather from the shear line.
For its part, the province of Davao de Oro has suspended work in government offices, following a recommendation from its Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
However, those providing frontline, emergency, and essential services will remain open.
The municipalities of Mabini, Maco, Maragusan, Nabunturan, Mawab, Monkayo, Compostela, New Bataan, and Montevista also announced the suspension of classes due to heavy rains.
In Davao Occidental, the LGUs of Malita, Jose Abad Santos, and Sarangani suspended classes.
The municipalities of Don Marcelino and Sta. Maria suspended both work and classes.
The Schools Division of Davao Occidental advised all its workforce to shift to work-from-home arrangements.
In Davao Oriental, the LGUs that have declared deferment of classes include the towns of Boston, Cateel, Baganga, Caraga, Banaybanay, Lupon, Manay, Tarragona, San Isidro, Governor Generoso, and Mati City.
In Davao del Sur, classes in the towns of Sta. Cruz, Magsaysay, Hagonoy, Padada, Kiblawan, Sulop, Matanao, Malalag, and Digos City were also postponed. (PNA)
