Cebu topbills in Blackpink Jisoo’s Netflix series Boyfriend on Demand

MANILA – The Philippines’ Cebu Island, known for its pristine beaches and world-class hospitality, has topbilled in the new Netflix series starring K-pop group Blackpink’s Jisoo and South Korean actor Seo In-guk.

The romantic comedy series, now ranking fifth in the streaming site’s Top 10 TV shows worldwide, features a young woman who turns to a virtual dating service that gives her different romantic experiences.

The portion of the series filmed in Cebu in February 2025 showcases some of the island province’s beaches and tourism offerings, including Filipino tourism front-liners.

The Cebu filming, the DOT said in a news release Tuesday, was coordinated by the agency and tourism stakeholders in the province, with support from airport authorities helping ensure the smooth arrival, departure, and stay of the cast and production team during filming.

“Through the continued collaboration of our overseas offices, local stakeholders, and industry partners, we hope to welcome more travelers to discover the diverse experiences that the country has to offer,” Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco said.

“When our destinations gain global visibility, it creates opportunities that benefit our tourism frontliners and local communities who help deliver the memorable experiences that keep visitors coming back,” she explained.

Frasco said this facilitation is also aligned with the Marcos administration’s push to not only highlight breathtaking Philippine destinations but also “the warmth and professionalism of our tourism workers who help create memorable visitor experiences.”

Seo, who also serves as the Philippines Celebrity Tourism Ambassador to South Korea, previously joined DOT’s tourism-related initiatives to promote the Philippines to Korean audiences, including through cultural exchange activities and destination campaigns.

“His participation in the series further strengthens Cebu’s visibility among Korean viewers, one of the Philippines’ most important tourism markets,” the DOT said.

Boyfriend on Demand premiered on March 6, with all 10 episodes streaming on demand via Netflix. The series also currently ranks No. 2 in the streaming site’s Top TV Shows in the Philippines. (PNA)
