MANILA – The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Tuesday said operations across the 44 commercial airports it operates were generally smooth and orderly during the Holy Week, or from March 28 to April 5.
Passenger volume reached 564,890, higher than the 505,511 passengers during the Lenten season last year.
"Despite a slight increase in passenger traffic beyond initial projections, airport operations remained efficient throughout the Holy Week travel period," it said in a news release.
CAAP earlier said it was expecting a 7 to 10 percent increase in the passenger volume during peak travel season.
The "success" in Holy Week operations was attributed to the heightened coordination among airport personnel, airline partners, and other government agencies, as well as the cooperation of travelers.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated airport personnel who ensured safe, secure, and efficient operations throughout the Holy Week surge. We also thank the flying public for their patience, understanding, and cooperation, which greatly contributed to the smooth flow of travel during this peak period,” CAAP Director General Raul del Rosario was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, CAAP also reported that the largest number of passengers was recorded in airports located in Davao, Iloilo, Bacolod, Puerto Princesa, and Tacloban. (PNA)
