CAAP reaffirms partnership with OTS

MANILA – The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Tuesday reaffirmed its commitment to closely work with the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) to ensure not only modernization but security.

“As CAAP moves forward with airport modernization and infrastructure upgrades, OTS remains a vital partner. In every expansion plan, every operational enhancement, and every compliance audit, security integration will always be part of the equation,” CAAP Director General Raul Del Rosario was quoted as saying in a news release.

Asked about the partnership, OTS spokesperson Kim Marquez explained that both agencies will be working closely in ensuring passengers' efficient movement from point A to point B.

"CAAP oversees the safety aspect of civil aviation, such as aircraft accidents. The OTS focuses on the security aspect (or threats), such as terrorism, sabotage, hijacking. So they must come hand in hand in ensuring the protection of passengers," Marquez told the Philippine News Agency in an interview.

CAAP is in charge of safety in the 44 commercial airports that it operates, Marquez added.

She said Del Rosario, being a former OTS administrator, really ensures strong ties with the agency.

Meanwhile, CAAP said Del Rosario was invited to speak during the OTS flag ceremony on Monday, wherein he underscored that airport efficiency and regulatory compliance must always go hand in hand with robust security measures.

"The Director General emphasized that aviation safety and security are inseparable pillars of public trust and national development,” it said. (PNA)
