5 stolen vehicles recovered in Negros Oriental

DUMAGUETE CITY – The Philippine National Police's Provincial Highway Patrol Team (PHPT) in Negros Oriental has recovered five stolen motor vehicles in one day of intensified operations following the arrest of a suspected carnapper.

PHPT provincial chief PEMS Aurelio Bodo said in a statement on Wednesday that all five cars were recovered from different areas in the province on Tuesday after they were reported linked to the “Rent-Tangay-Sangla” modus.

“All recovered vehicles were legitimately rented and later pawned to various individuals, using falsified Certificates of Registration under the name of Jethro, who was earlier arrested by this Team and is currently detained at the Dumaguete City Police Station detention facility,” Bodo said.

The recovered motor vehicles were a grayish blue Toyota Vios, which was recovered in Barangay Motong here; a blackish red Toyota Vios, recovered in Barangay Calindagan in this capital city; a white Mitsubishi XForce, recovered in Barangay Mag-aso, Dauin town; a white Hyundai vehicle, also recovered in Barangay Mag-aso; and a blue MG ZS Trophy, recovered in Basay town.

The PHPT chief said based on investigation, the recovered vehicles were legitimately rented and later pawned to various individuals.

He warned the public against renting out their motor vehicles, especially to suspicious individuals.

Bodo said the vehicles are now under a custodial investigation by the PHPT and will undergo macro-etching examinations before they are turned over to the rightful owners.

“The PHPT Negros Oriental reiterates its unwavering commitment as 'Guardians of the Highways'—steadfast in protecting the public from organized vehicle-related crimes and denying criminal syndicates the use of stolen motor vehicles,” Bodo said. (PNA)
